We are grateful to many people and it is because of them that this project exists.
HARP is funded by two grants from South Africa’s National Research Foundation to Dr Tim Forssman: a Competitive Programme for Rated Researchers and an African Origins Platform grant. Further support has been provided by the Palaeontological Scientific Trust to students conducting their research through the project. The University of Pretoria has also provided a Research Development Programme grant. We are immensely grateful for all of this support.
All of our excavations are conducted under permits issued by the South African Heritage Resources Agency and our work is supported by the South African National Parks, which also provide rangers for our protection. We thank Louisa Swemmer, Samantha Mabuza, Thabo Kgomommu, Ndukuyakhe Ndlovu, Conrad Strauss, Innocent Lebepe and, for his guidance and protection in the field, Kamogelo Mabowa. We also thank Hazel and Duncan McWhirter of Kaoxa Camp, Estie and Werner Taljaard from the Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve, and Rox and Morne Brummer from Corea for their support.
The University of Mpumalanga and the University of Pretoria provide academic support in various forms. Their assistance and enthusiasm for this project are much appreciated.
We have also been offered guidance by many academics within the field and their research has helped us frame our own work. We appreciate the help and sharing offered by Simon Hall, Peter Mitchell, Sam Challis, Peter Morrisey, Matt Lotter, Iris Guillemard, Karim Sadr, Thomas Huffman, Alex Schoeman and Patience Shabalala.
Finally, thanks are owed to the many students and field assistants who have taken part in our fieldwork: Sonja van Zyl, Courtney Knell, Natasha Taylor, Juané Hurter, Siphesihle Kuhlase, Zayne Vorster, Mellissa Lindsey, Chante Barnard, Justine van Heerden, Ianco Coetzee, Alice Mullen, Tyler Gardner, Justin Pentz, Hannes Visser, Bianca van Zyl, Nicole Visser, Peter Morrisey, Kate Croll, Nicci Sherwood, Jaco van der Spuy, Angelinah Masolo, Sylvia Ubisse, Kholeka Makubu, Lethabo Thulare, Nicholas Mohala, Felicia Sibiya, Rito Ngoveni, Finn Heywood, Amy Gadhia, Mateusz Drzewiecki, Semika Rai and Mariam Eapen.
